Seoul - Introduction

600 Years of Korean history can be found back in the capital of South-Korea: Seoul. Seoul is the Korean center of architecture, religion, politics, film, literature, art, music, dance, food and fashion. It can all be found in this metropolis, where 10.3 million Koreans find their home. Although the city is surrounded by mountains and split by the Han-river, Koreans find their way around easily by a well-developed infrastructure of public transport. The subway-system makes this relatively compact metropolis even smaller, by connecting every corner of the city with each other. Seoul is a modern city, connected 24/7 to the rest of the country and the world. A city of world-class importance for the world and representative of the economic growth of Dynamic Korea.

General Information about Seoul

Seoul is located at the north-west corner of South-Korea, 50 km from the border of the De-Militarized-Zone (DMZ) with North-Korea. Toward the west is the neighboring major port-city of Incheon, which is normally included in the Greater Seoul Area. Seoul itself covers an area of 600 km2, but Greater Seoul includes Incheon and numerous satellite cities.

Traveling to Seoul

To get to Seoul from abroad you will fly into Incheon International Airport, located 52 km west of the city. Everyday Korea is connected to the world by Incheon Airport, including every major city in the world. At the ground floor you are able to buy a ticket for two types of buses running to Seoul: There are ten City Limousine buses running through the city...

Seoul Accomodation

There is no need to worry about a place to sleep. Seoul offers plenty accommodations in all price ranges. In general there are 3 different kinds of accommodations. Low Price: Hostels and Guesthouses are the cheapest way to live in Seoul. Most hostels and guesthouses can be found around the center and in the area of Hongik, Sinchon and Ewha.

Traveling in Seoul

The city of Seoul is connected by a wide subway-system, comparable with those in Paris and London. The system is clean, fast and cheap and you will be able to get anywhere in the city. There are 8 lines, recognizable by color. In the center you can count 2 minutes in between stops, which means 10 stops will take approximately 20 minutes. Entering the subway will cost you 900 won...

Seoul Sightseeing

Sightseeing in Korea is quite cheap. For most sights you will pay only 1000 won maximum. To have enough time, don't arrive late, as most sights close between 17:00 and 18:00. The main sight in Seoul is Gyeongbokgung. It is the biggest palace in Seoul, which reminds you of the early years of Korean dynasties. Until 1592 Gyeongbokgung served as the principal palace for the Joseon dynasty. The palace of today is only an impression of the palace it once was.
